How much do new windows cost in Dundee?

The cost varies with the size of your home, the style of window, and what we find behind the old frames. uPVC is generally the most affordable, while aluminium or timber cost more for the slim sightlines or the look. We'll give you a fixed, itemised quote within 24 hours that includes everything: the windows, fitting, trim, disposal of the old units, and an allowance for any rot we find when we open up. The price you see is the price you pay, no 'today-only' discounts and no surprise line items added on the day. If you'd like a ballpark before booking a survey, ring Jamie directly and he'll talk you through realistic ranges for your size of property.

How long does a window installation take?

A typical whole-house install is 2 to 3 days for an average semi, 3 to 5 days for a larger detached. Each window is normally out and the new one in within 1 to 2 hours, so no room is open to the weather for long. We dust-sheet everything, clean as we go, and tidy up properly at the end of each day. You don't need to move out, and you can stay in any room we're not actively working in. We give you a clear schedule before we start, the same crew for the whole job, and we don't disappear if something needs adjusting later.

uPVC, aluminium or timber, which is right for my home?

For most Dundee and Tayside homes, uPVC is the right answer: best balance of thermal performance, cost and longevity in Scottish weather, and modern uPVC looks nothing like the chunky frames of 20 years ago. Aluminium is worth the upgrade if you want very slim sightlines (more glass, less frame) or you're going for a specific contemporary look. It costs more and conducts cold a touch more, but it's the right fit for some properties. Timber is rare these days outside conservation areas, beautiful but high-maintenance. We'll tell you which makes sense for your house when we survey, not which has the highest margin for us.

Will new windows reduce outside noise?

Yes. Two layers of glass separated by an insulating gap block sound noticeably, which is especially welcome if you're near a busy road, a school run, or anywhere with constant background noise. Most of our customers say the quietness is the first thing they notice once the windows are in. If noise is a real priority for you, we can spec acoustic glazing that steps the performance up further. Just tell us at the survey and we'll quote it both ways.

Will new windows lower my energy bills?

Honestly? Yes, but probably not as much as the adverts claim, and we'd rather you know that going in. New windows reduce drafts and cold spots noticeably, and you'll feel the room temperature even out. But if your loft insulation is thin or your floors are cold, those leaks are likely costing you more than your windows are. We'd rather you spend on the right thing first. If we survey your house and the windows aren't your biggest issue, we'll say so, even if it means a smaller job for us. What we will promise: warmer rooms, less noise, no fogged panes, and bills that are lower than they would have been without us.

How do double glazed windows prevent condensation?

The insulating gap between the two panes keeps the inside surface of the glass closer to room temperature, so moisture in the air doesn't condense on it the way it does on cold single-glazed glass. If you've got condensation between the panes (not on the inside surface), the sealed unit has failed and no amount of resealing or 'defogging' will bring the insulation back. The gas fill is gone for good. We'll tell you honestly which one you've got when we survey.

Can I get new windows for a listed building or conservation area?

Yes. Planning permission is usually required, and the council will often want the new windows to closely match the originals in profile, glazing bars and opening style. We offer slimline double glazing options that retain the look of original windows while improving thermal performance significantly. We've worked on heritage properties across Dundee and Tayside and can guide you through the planning side as well as the install.

What's covered by your guarantee, and what happens if something goes wrong?

A 10-year guarantee that covers both the windows and the fit, with no manufacturer-vs-installer finger-pointing because we're both. If a seal fails, a sash sticks, a draft appears, or anything looks off in the first ten years, you ring Jamie and we come and fix it. Labour included. No pro-rata sliding scales, no 'you painted it so the warranty's void' arguments. We'd rather come back twice in ten years and keep a happy customer than win the warranty fine print.
